How to Make a Strong Joint

Shake well before using – Do not use if cement ( solution ) is not fluid
Cut pipe square with saw or hand cutter. Remove burrs or raised beads with clean dry cloth or knife or file.
The pipe and fitting should be free of dirt, grease, and other foreign materials. Remove dirt, grease, moisture and any foreign materials using clean dry cloth. If necessary use Weld-All™ Pipe Cleaner. Weld-All Pipe Cleaner is specially formulated to clean pipes and fittings without damaging them.
Check the dry fit of pipe and fitting. Pipe should easily go 1/3 to 1/2 ways into fitting. If pipe bottoms into fitting it should be very snug – if not, use a different pipe or fitting. An excessively tight or loose fit is not desirable.
Primer is highly recommended for 3” and larger diameter installation. Apply a liberal coating of primer to the outside surface of pipe then to inside surface of fitting. Then once again, apply coat to pipe. Cement should be applied to pipes and fittings while primer is still wet.
Use applicator supplied with the can or suitable applicator approximately ½ the size of the pipe diameter. Using the right-sized applicator will ensure sufficient cement is applied to pipe and fitting.
Apply liberal coat of cement (while primer is still wet) to the pipe (equal to depth of fitting) and medium coat inside of fitting – make sure there is no puddle of cement inside the fitting. Again, apply a coat of cement to the pipe. Make sure there is no uncoated surface. Most failures are caused by insufficient application of cement.
Immediately, while cement is still wet ( fluid ), insert pipe into fitting with twisting motion. If it has dried recoat both parts. Use sufficient force to make sure pipe bottoms into fitting.
If cement has harden cut pipe to depth of cement and use new off fitting. Never use partially cured pipe and fitting – partially dried cement of pipe and fitting.
Hold joint together for 30-60 seconds to make sure pipe is not pushed out – longer if temperature is low and for larger pipes.
A cement bead will appear if enough cement is used. Wipe off bead.

Set and Cure Times

Allow 15to 20 minutes set time before handling the assembly. Allow sufficient cure time to assure a strong joint. Longer cure time may be required for larger pipe and or temperature is below 60 degree Fahrenheit (16 degree Celsius). Consult ASTM cure time guide.
